FROM July 1 visitors are welcome to unwind at the city’s eight beaches.

The period between July and September can be a hard time for those in other cities

      — but not for those in Qingdao, who can enjoy the cool sea, sunshine and summer breezes at the beach.

Qingdao’s coastline offers eight beaches with soft sand, gentle waves and beautiful sea views.

The No. 1 beach at Huiquan Bay is the oldest. The 580-meter-long, 40-meter-wide beach is said to be one of the best beaches in East Asia.

Situated inside Eight Passes Scenic Spot, the No. 2 beach is flanked by steep cliffs which protect it from heavy waves. This tranquil setting and beautiful place is ideal for relaxation and swimming.

The No. 6 beach, located to the west of Zhanqiao Pier, is the smallest but also closest to Qingdao’s busy commercial streets.

The Old Stone Man Bathing Place is the biggest beach in Qingdao. The beach is so called as it features a 17-meter-high rock resembling an old fisherman, the source of a local folk legend.(Jane Lai)
